Why are desi parents living abroad overprotective of their culture and traditions?

by Sannan Wastani

Living abroad brings a lot of changes into your life including the adaptation of foreign
cultures and traditions. But parents are parents all around the world. Desi parents seem to
become more conscious of keeping their traditional values intact.

The idea of their children growing in a foreign country, away from their traditional norms
and amongst many other foreign students brings stress to these desi parents. In such a fast-
growing world, they don’t want their children to turn into rebellious little creatures.

We see many desi parents dragging their children to temples and mosques on occasions like
Diwali and Eid to enforce affection towards their culture. It pains desi parents to see their
kids growing away from the values they cherished in curry land, which is why they leave no
stone unturned to make them aware of their culture and norms.

No desi parent can withstand seeing their kid turn into an alien while living abroad. As much
as they would love to see their child grow into a smart, technologically-sound and confident
person, they would make him/her follow their customary norms to balance it out.
