9 food items without which your Iftar table is incomplete

by Roohi Fatima

The holiest month of the year Ramadan has finally arrived once again for Muslims. In Ramadan Iftar is the most important meal of the day as it is the time when muslim breaks there fast and a South-Asian Iftar is always created on large scale. So, we thought it would be interesting to compile a list of lawazmat present in Iftar menu and without which iftar table of an average South-Asian household is incomplete.

  1. Khajoor

Dates and Ramadan go hand in hand, there is not a single Dartarkhawn that does not have khajoor. The Sunnah practice of breaking fast with Khajoor, before anything else is what unites Muslims all over the globe, making the nutritious fruit a mandatory item on all Iftar platters.

  1. Rooh Afza

Rooh afzah is one of the main sweet drink that is present in every dastarkhawn and that everyone refers to this drink during iftar time. The chilled thirst-quenching drink has been the first sip of thousands of Rozedars while breaking their fast.

  1. Samosa

Samosas are eaten normally at tea time but many different forms of samosas are eaten in Ramadan than on regular days. Such as the Qeema samosa, Aloo samosa, Spaghetti samosa (sounds weird? not if you live in a desi household) and vegetable samosa present in different shape and size.

  1. Jalebi

Oozing with saccharine syrup, the gooey and glossy, delicately rounded Jalebis is a daily sweet-tooth Iftar doze for sweet lovers.

  1. Chinese Roll

A stuffed roll with a few of my favorite things. Crunchy vegetables and chicken. Spring roll also gets a spot on everyone’s dastarkhwan during Ramadan.

  1. Fruit Chaat

The sweet and spicy combination with the deliciousness of different fruit is simply irresistible. This is the most essential item of iftar table

  1. Channa Chaat

Channa Chaat is spicy and is one of those dishes which is eaten regularly but is eaten widely during Ramadan as well.

  1. Dahi Barey

Testing your taste buds with the tantalizing taste of sweet Dahi barey topped with spicy chaat masala. Dahi Baray is a quick tasty treat prepared in many households for Ramadan.

  1. Lassi

Lassi is a healthy and lazeez drink that we have during Ramadan, prepared with the blend of milk and yogurt is a most refreshing drink that we have in Ramadan.
